Patek Philippe 6159G-001: Price, Specs and the Sapphire Dial (2026)
Last updated: October 6, 2026
The Patek Philippe 6159G-001 is a white gold perpetual calendar with a retrograde date hand and a smoked gray sapphire dial that lets the movement show through. Patek introduced it at Watches and Wonders in April 2025 as a regular-production Grand Complications reference. It measures 39.5 mm by 11.49 mm, runs the self-winding caliber 26-330 S QR, and lists at $130,033 in the US (patek.com, October 2026).
The date is read from a red-tipped hand that sweeps an arc of numbers across the top of the dial, then flies back to 1 when the month ends. Day, month, leap year and moon phase sit in four apertures at 9, 3, 12 and 6 o'clock.

How the Retrograde Perpetual Calendar Works
A perpetual calendar tracks the length of every month, including February in leap years. As long as the watch keeps running and stays set, the date will not need correcting until 2100, a century year that skips its leap day. Patek made its first perpetual calendar wristwatch in 1925.
"Retrograde" describes how the date is shown. The red-tipped date hand travels along an arc that runs from about 8 o'clock over the top of the dial to about 4 o'clock. After the last day of the month, whether that is the 28th, 29th, 30th or 31st, the hand jumps back to 1. Patek's manual for the caliber says a spiral spring drives that return, and a separate mechanism stops the hand from bouncing past 1 to the 2nd or 3rd.
The aperture at 12 o'clock tracks the four-year leap cycle. The moon phase at 6 o'clock drifts by one day in 122 years and 45 days. Pulling the crown stops the seconds hand, so the time can be set to the second.
The power reserve runs 35 to 45 hours, and a watch winder keeps the calendar running between wears. The calendar sets through recessed correctors on the case, using the stylus Patek supplies. Patek's instructions say not to make calendar or moon-phase corrections between 4 p.m. and 1 a.m.
The Sapphire Dial and Hobnail Case
The dial is a disc of sapphire crystal with gray metallization that darkens to a black gradient at the rim. The metallization is translucent, so the calendar works behind it show between the hour markers. Patek outlines the day, month, leap-year and moon-phase apertures in gray.
Patek has used a metallized sapphire dial before, in blue, on the platinum 5316/50P-001 Grand Complication from 2023. The 6159G brings the idea to a self-winding perpetual calendar in white gold, with luminous baton markers and dauphine hands.
The case shares its design with the Calatrava 6119, including the hobnail (Clous de Paris) bezel. On the 6159G the caseback carries the same guilloché, with a sapphire crystal window onto the movement and its 21K gold central rotor. At 39.5 mm by 11.49 mm, it is sized like a dress watch. Hodinkee's Mark Kauzlarich wrote after his hands-on that it "wears incredibly comfortably" (April 2025).
The strap is a black composite with a fabric pattern and contrast stitching. It closes with Patek's patented triple-blade fold-over clasp in white gold, stamped with the Calatrava cross.
6159G vs 5160/500R vs 5327G
Two other current Patek perpetual calendars make useful comparisons. The 5160/500R-001 runs the same caliber 26-330 S QR inside a hand-engraved rose gold case. The 5327G-001 is a white gold perpetual calendar on the micro-rotor caliber 240 Q.

| US retail (Oct 2026) | $130,033 | $235,006 | $120,656 |
The 5160/500R shows the same movement dressed in hand engraving, with a hinged dust cover over the caseback. The 5327G keeps a thinner case and classic Breguet numerals. The 6159G puts the calendar mechanism on view through the dial. For the rest of the line, see our guide to Patek Philippe Grand Complications.

What is a retrograde perpetual calendar?
A perpetual calendar tracks every month length and leap year, so the date will not need correcting until 2100 as long as the watch keeps running. "Retrograde" describes the date display: a hand sweeps along an arc from 1 to 31, then jumps back to 1 at the end of each month.
What color is the 6159G dial?
Patek describes the dial as sapphire crystal with gray metallization and a black-gradient rim. In photos it often reads as black, especially toward the edge. The gray metallization is translucent, so the calendar mechanism shows through the center of the dial between the hour markers.
